Each contribution directly supports the creation, production, and community screening of powerful short films that spark real conversations around mental health. From paying actors and crew, to renting equipment, securing screening venues, and providing printed resources at our events—every dollar goes toward amplifying voices and connecting people to hope and healing.
We also use funds to:
-
Provide free community events and panel discussions led by mental health professionals
-
Print and distribute resource guides with coping tools and support contacts
-
Compensate creatives involved in each film
-
Offer stipends to lived-experience storytellers who inspire our scripts

Using Film to Amplify Mental Health Conversations
Our films explore identity, trauma, and healing, sparking meaningful dialogues about mental health.

At the Finding Inspiration Foundation, we believe that stories can heal.
We’re a nonprofit rooted in Charlotte, NC, using the power of film, conversation, and community to spark change around mental health. Our work centers the real struggles people face — anxiety, addiction, grief, trauma, and more — and creates space for those stories to be seen, heard, and understood.
Through original short films, screenings, community events, and creative partnerships, we connect people to powerful narratives and real resources. Whether it’s through laughter, tears, or dialogue, our goal is always the same: to remind people they’re not alone — and that healing is possible.
Founded by filmmaker Andrew Smith, the Foundation was built on lived experience and a desire to reach people where they are — especially those who’ve been overlooked, misunderstood, or underserved.
This isn’t just about film. It’s about community. And it’s about shifting the culture around mental health, one story at a time.
