Why I Wrote This Book

When I started out as a sound mixer, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I was that guy who thought, “How hard can it be? Put a mic on someone, hit record, done.” I wish. My first projects were insane—clothing rustling so loud it sounded like a storm, dialogue muffled beyond recognition, and, let’s not forget, the constant battle with barking dogs and passing planes. I didn’t have anyone to guide me. No mentor. No manual. Just a Zoom H4n recorder, a dream, and a lot of mistakes.
